So really this whole post is a plea for advice and help from all you well-educated moms out there. Zoey will be four months old this Friday. She has had a snotty nose for two weeks straight now. It is so hard for her to breathe and drink her bottles. It even makes for a bad night's rest cuz she can't breathe out of her nose well. And I have tried all the natural remedies there are out there. Nothing has seemed to work. I have a humidifier running all hours of the day too. She just can't seem to kick it. On top of it, she sneezes on average 15 times a day. Is this normal? Could she have allergies? I just feel so helpless and I just wish there was something I could do for my little baby. She is still such a happy baby though and just smiles and laughs all the time. When night time rolls around is when she starts to get a little runny in the nose and a little cranky. I have also been to the doctor and he said its just a little cold and she will just have to deal with it and let her body get rid of it. I just didn't know it would be two weeks later and she would still be having a snotty nose. Let me know what you think about the sneezing and if that has something to do with her cold or not. I would be willing to try anything. I have already tried an onion by her bedside for her to breathe in at night. Now that is desperate huh. Thanks in advance for your advice....

I think I would take her back to the doctor. If she has had it for that long then her body is obviously having a hard time kicking it.
Sometimes colds can turn into sinus infections.... maybe a course of antibiotics is needed. I agree with Amy, take her back to the doctor. Hope she feels better soon! Nothing is worse than a sick baby!
For me I've always been able to tell when Weston is really sick because his snot is a yucky yellow color. When it's clear I know it's allergies and it just needs to run it's course. But yellow snot isn't good so maybe take her back if it's still really bad. Also, when I had Weston I learned that babies sneeze a lot because they don't have hair in their nose so it gets agitated really easily until their hair grows in there. So I would focus more on the snot rather then the sneezing to decide to take her back to the doctor. But Saydi and Weston both have this now too and I understand exactly what you're going through! It's not fun. Saydi has already learned to hate that green nose sucker!
I would call the nurses at Gritman. They have been super helpful to me and you can call them anytime with questions. 883-baby
Hammy's been congested for three weeks straight now. He's been to the doctor twice, always with the same conclusion -- not much they can do. Dr. Frostad did tell me that if you put salt drops up their nose and suction them out, you'll shorten the duration of the cold.
The one thing you do want to be careful of is pneumonia. The nurses at Gritman would be happy to listen to his lungs and check for that if you're concerned.
For the congestion, she's old enough that you can use the children's Vicks Vapor Rub (if you can't find any, let me know -- I can drop some by this week). Sometime a humidifier makes things better, but sometimes it makes things worse. So if it doesn't seem to be helping, stop using it.
You might want to have her sleep a few nights in her car seat (if you have a good one she can be comfortable in). That way her head can stay elevated a bit and her sinuses can drain through the night instead of clogging.
Stay away from the antibiotics. Your doctor won't give it to you unless it's really bad or you're really desperate, and even then it's often more harmful than the cold itself.
As for the sneezing, might be allergies, but might just be dust regular irritations. My kids have always been big sneezers. They very well may have allergies, but the doctor said even if that's the case there's not much they can do about it until they're older.
My father-in-law is a pediatric ICU nurse and my mother-in-law worked as a pediatric LPN for years, so if you have any questions ever I could put you in touch with them ...
Payton's nose always does this too. Even now. It's when seasons change from winter to spring and summer to fall. This could be the issue or is she cutting teeth?? That also causes snotty noses and the sneezes could just be a side affect of the boogies
I don't think I could add much more advice. Everyone else said exactly what I would have. It is so hard trying to feeling so helpless. You are a good mom for caring so much. Let us now what you do.
Dang! That is no fun. Looks like you have lots of advice here though. Good luck! :)
Hey there! Little girls are totally fun! You little one is so adorable! She looks like a very fun and good baby! So I asked my pediatrician about the whole sneezing thing and he said it is completely normal! Good luck with the runny nose! It would be great to see you when you're in town! Thanks for saying Hi!
